The translation of Kapha is biological water, and this bodily principle is formed from the two elements: Earth and Water. Kapha cements the elements in the body, providing the material for physical structure. This dosha maintains body resistance. Water is the main constituent of kapha, and this bodily water is responsible physiologically for biological strength and a natural tissue resistance in the body. Kapha lubricate the joints, provides moisture to the skin, helps to heal wounds, fills the space in the body, gives biological strength, vigor and stability, supports memory retention, gives energy to the heart and lungs and maintains immunity.

Kapha is present in the chest, throat, head, sinuses, nose, mouth, stomach, joints, cytoplasm, plasma and liquid secretions of the body such as mucus. Psychologically, Kapha is responsible for emotions of attachment, greed and long standing envy. It is also expressed in the tendencies towards calmness, forgiveness and love. The chest is the seat of kapha.

Ginger is a warming spice, contributing the pungent taste. It helps pacify vata and kapha and increases pitta. In ayurveda, cloves are considered to promote healthy circulation, digestion and metabolism and to help with occasional stomach discomfort, such as gas, bloating and nausea.

Black pepper is considered an important spice in ayurveda. It has cleansing and antioxidant properties, and it is a bioavailability enhancer: it helps transport the benefits of other herbs to the different parts of the body. It helps the free flow of oxygen to the brain, helps enhance digestion and circulation, and stimulates the appetite.

Cardamom is tridoshic (good for balancing all three doshas). Cardamom is considered an excellent digestive, especially beneficial for bloating and intestinal gas. It is excellent for balancing kapha, particularly in the stomach and the lungs.

Turmeric contains the flavonoid curcumin, which is known to have many beneficial properties. This all around wonder spice is said to help detoxify the liver, help maintain balanced cholesterol levels, help maintain a healthy response to allergens, stimulate digestion, and support immunity and a healthy complexion. It is also an anti oxidant.
